'Yours' magazine

Any short story writers amongst you who might have submitted to 'Yours' during 2009 and haven't had a response - please take note! I queried one of my stories that had been out with them since June last year, as the wait seemed a bit excessive for them. Marion Clark has got back to me saying it must have gone astray because they've now returned all submissions received before December 2009. I was glad she let me know, because I had another one outstanding since August, so presume that one's gone astray too!

Marion has invited me to resubmit, but has also warned me that their story length requirement has now changed from 1000-1500 words, to 1000-1200. Quite significant as I find it enough of a challenge to keep below 1500 words, so mine will both need to be cut before resubmitting!

Good luck anyone submitting there. I've got a story out with them next week as it happens!

  3. I'll check my log and see if I've got any with them though off the top of my head I don't think I do. Thanks for letting us know Olivia so that we can check. Isn't Marion lovely - she once sent me a hand written note with the rejection slip she sent me encouraging me to keep writing. It made the rejection a bit sweeter.

  4. Yes, Marion's really nice to deal with. How lovely to get that encouraging note, Colette -it's worth such a lot, isn't it, when an editor goes to that trouble.
She's since told me that any of the original longer length) stories already in her possession will still be considered, as long as they're less than 1600 words, but the new length applies for future submissions.

  5. Hi
Thanks for the update (I've also found you via Womagriter's blog) I've only tried Yours once, but I have a story lolling around with the right word count but nowhere to go, so I'll try Yours again, so that's good news for me!

  7. Nice to see you here, P&P (and Helen - sorry,I should have said that before, that's what happens when you visit Blogger in a rush between other jobs!). And good luck with your story.

Hi Womag. Thanks for linking, and glad to help. You thanked me on your own Blog! I don't think it's ever happened before that I've got a bit of news before you! x

  9. You're welcome Karen. Not often I get to hear about anything ahead of anyone else, so the least I can do is share it!
